A small seed with a long story, and a lovely nutty note in your cup.
An ancient plant
Hemp has been cultivated for thousands of years. Ancient farmers in Asia grew it for its strong fibres, used for rope, sails, cloth and even early paper, and its seeds were part of everyday cooking. From there, hemp spread across Europe and the Mediterranean, where it was grown for centuries alongside wheat and flax.
The hemp seeds we use come from varieties grown for food. They contain no psychoactive substances: they are simply a culinary ingredient, just like sesame or sunflower seeds.
What hemp seeds bring to tea
Hemp seeds have a mild, nutty and slightly toasted flavour, often compared to pine nuts or sunflower seeds. In a tea blend they work in the background, adding roundness and a gentle, savoury depth that pairs beautifully with sweet and spicy ingredients.
Hemp in Ironclad Vitality
In our Ironclad Vitality blend, hemp seeds meet honeyed rooibos, warm ginger, zesty lemongrass, lemon balm and verbena, with apple, orange peel and marigold blossoms. The result is a robust, naturally caffeine-free cup that is bright, warming and slightly nutty.
How to brew it
- Use one heaped teaspoon (about 3 g) per 250 ml.
- Pour over freshly boiled water.
- Steep for 6–8 minutes; rooibos does not turn bitter, so a longer steep simply gives a fuller cup.
- Enjoy it hot, with a splash of milk, or chilled over ice.
A cup for every part of the day
Brew a pot after a workout, keep a thermos at your desk for the afternoon, or enjoy a quiet cup in the evening. Because it is caffeine-free, Ironclad Vitality fits any moment.
